Bangladesh announces cash incentives for goods exports

Bangladesh in September announced cash incentives against export of products under 37 categories, including one per cent additional special incentive for RMG products for the current fiscal. According to a Bangladesh Bank circular, RMG exporters would get the incentive in addition to the existing 4 per cent cash incentive that remains unchanged. The textile sector would enjoy the cash incentive as an alternative to duty bonds and duty drawbacks. The cash incentive is unchanged for those who export apparel to the Euro zone. Companies in economic zones would get 4 per cent additional cash incentive for exporting shoes and bags made from synthetic fibres and fabric to new markets.

BGMEA to set up RMG Sustainability Council

The BGMEA will establish a Readymade Garments (RMG) Sustainability Council (RSC) to ensure a complete and independent national compliance monitoring system. It will be governed by BGMEA, BKMEA, brands and workers’ representatives. The RSC will take over the structure, operation and resources of the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh as it phases out from Bangladesh in the 281 days of signing of the memorandum of understanding between the BGMEA and Accord. The RSC will take over all the safety-related matters within the legal framework of the government.
