Emily from A Nutritionist Eats!  Congrats, Emily!  Send me an e-mail with your address so Chobani can send the new flavors your way!

As I mentioned on Wednesday, my husband and I ended up at a relatively new Mexican restaurant I’ve been wanting to try for a while – Verde.  Since Mexican is my favorite cuisine, it was a perfect Valentine’s Day date.

They offer 150 different tequilas, daily specials, and some pretty freaking delicious homemade chips with lots of salt and just made tomatillo salsa.

According to Twitter, they describe themselves as:  “a Pittsburgh-based restaurant serving fresh, authentic Mexican food in an upscale, modern setting”.

My husband said he felt like we were dining in Ikea.  We were there early so it wasn’t too crowded.  For me, it was all about the food, not the atmosphere.

The menu is limited (about 10 entree choices), but each item is unique enough to give diners plenty to choose from.

Since I could eat a bathtub full of guacamole, we opted for a small side to share instead of the tableside version – I know I would have gone overboard given the option!

The guacamole was as fresh as it gets – we were told they had just begun mashing the avocados so it took a few minutes. :)

We had a wonderful server who helped me to decide between the multiple(!) vegetarian dishes that I wanted to try.  The sweet potato tacos sounded the most unique, so once he recommended them, I was sold.

Tacos de Camote: Roasted sweet potatoes, fried chickpeas, Mexican style tzatziki

My husband isn’t a big fan of chicken (which was in a lot of the entree dishes), but the special was exactly what he was looking for – steak tacos.  Both of our entrees came with rice and beans.

Carne Asada Tacos:grilled steak, cabbage, fried onions, chimichurri

We were so stuffed from the meal that we didn’t even think about dessert, but were presented with chocolate covered strawberries for a Valentine’s day treat.

I only got through one of my tacos at dinner, so I added the contents, plus some beans, avocado, and roasted red pepper to make a delicious salad for lunch the next day.  I love getting two meals out of one. :)

Overall, Verde was a great experience and we’ll definitely be back.

Tell me your fun plans for the weekend!

I love the idea of that taco combo–never seen anything like that before! I wish there were a better Mexican place near by.

I’m doing dinner with a girlfriend tonight, then going to a fancy grocery store for some fun shopping with my dad tomorrow. Random, but fun! :)

Sweet potato tacos sound amaaazing! I’m going to have to try to replicate this dish at home. Yum!

I could eat a bathtub of guacamole too. Occasionally I’ll go to a Mexican restaurant and call chips + guac + salsa dinner. Extremely unbalanced? Yep. Delicious? Most definitely!

So glad you had a nice Valentine’s Day!

Just a little bit envious! Mexican food hasn’t come to my city yet. We have fabulous Asian restaurants not nothing Mexican, alas!

I love Verde! We went during their soft opening week and had a ton of fun. The chile rellenos are very unique & I would recommend them! The carne asada (for your husband perhaps?) also got rave reviews from the group. The various margaritas were all good…we didn’t get into the tequila shots! Can’t wait to go back sometime when it’s warmer out and sit outside.
